Tomorrow is mole day. In chemistry a mole is a quantity. It is simply 6.02×10^23 of something. In layman’s terms, it is roughly a trillion trillion. Moles are useful for very small things.
Atoms are small. 22 pre-1982 pennies contain a mole of copper atoms. Molecules are small. A tablespoon of water is a mole of water molecules.
Cells are not small. A mole of cells is about every human cell on this planet right now. Sand is not small. There are about a mole of grains of sand on earth. Stars are not small. There are a mole of stars in the universe.
There are 10 trillion (!!!) times fewer than a moles of humans to have ever walked on earth. We are both small and large, small in number and yet the most significant thing in of all creation. It is important for us to keep perspective of our power and our powerlessness.
In Genesis, God told Abraham that he would give him a mole of descendants (Genesis 22:17, BSV). In this promise we see both our smallness and largeness.
