Thinking about the 3rd F – which is Faith. F3 defines Faith as a belief in something bigger than yourself. And I like that definition because it is quite broad. I have visited other F3 sites that seem more religious and some that are a lot less.

I read this recently: “Faith is not belief without evidence. Faith is belief when evidence may point in a particular direction but is not complete or exhaustive. Belief entirely without any evidence at all is simply foolishness. That foolishness is not confined to religious activities- it is rampant in politics or any other arena of belief. Non-theists are just as capable of such foolish as theists are.”

So F3 is not religious… or at least it says it’s not. That being said, it seems like most of the people in F3 Wheaton are Christian… which I think is what we would expect… (or at least what I would expect). I grew up very Christian, my parents were missionaries… I was involved in church, volunteering for ministry things, and even was involved in some short term mission things myself (in my younger adult years).

In the last few decades, for several reasons, I’ve let go of many of the beliefs I grew up with, and can’t truthfully believe what I used to…. to the point that I’m mostly agnostic. At this point I’m happy and comfortable with that.
So, in regards to faith… even though I don’t really have much of a faith in a god anymore – there are some things I still have faith in.

Here are 5 examples of things I still have faith in:

Love – to do what is right and care for other people and the earth. Sometimes that means having faith in people… but also losing faith in some people.

Community- to support people we care for (or even people we don’t really care for) with our presence, our time, and energy.

Generosity- giving money and sharing things with others to help purposes that matter and make a difference.

Diversity- believing that we can learn from other people’s skills, experiences, and talents, and also from other cultures and traditions.

Justice – that we can be a part of making things right when they have gone wrong. Basically, faith in the form of activism.

Those are summaries, but just wanted to share that’s some of my view of what faith means to me.
